Fitzrovia used to be the bohemian area of London where writers and artists often lived. Today this place is a mix of everything – where you can find offices, hotels, shops and residential houses. Tourists usually miss Fitzrovia and instead head to the more overcrowded areas of Soho and Marylebone, missing out on some real hidden gems. Here are 16 of my favourite locations for a photo in Fitzrovia:
Warren Mews
You may have already seen this place as it is all over Instagram. This unique black house and 2 parked bicycles attract photographers from all over the city. The green bike is not there during the day and can be seen from about 6 pm onwards.
The Old Dairy Cafe

Right next to Warren Mews there is the Old Dairy Cafe. During working hours the put yellow tables outsides which creates an amazing contrast with the blue tiles of the exterior. I often see fashion bloggers having their photoshoots there.
Fitzroy Square Garden -Kenana House

Colourful doors can not only be found in Notting Hill and Chelsea, but also around beautiful Fitzroy Square Garden. Walk around it to see all the beautiful buildings – there are plenty of photography possibilities.
Pollock’s Toy Museum
(1 Scala St, W1T 2HL)
This museum and shop is a dream come true for an Instagrammer. Here you have a classic red brick wall, picturesque shop front, plants, and cute bicycles.
Colville Place
This little street connects Charlotte Street and Whitfield Street. It’s a small haven for plants in the middle of the city. Almost every front door is decorated with a few pots. Come here at dusk when the streets lights are turned on. It will make your photo look more romantic.
British Transport Police wall

If you are tired of all the photos with Shoreditch street art as a background, check out the building of the British Transport Police. I like the colour palette of these tiles, it’s perfect for an outfit or portrait shot.
South Crescent

This is rather an unusual building for London which is why it is on this list. There are lots of photo opportunities which make it a good place to practice your creativity.
26-27 Bedford Square Garden

This is a gorgeous black and white house which is very hard not to photograph. Flower decorations make it even more attractive.
Charlotte Street Hotel
This hotel is one of the stars of Fitzrovia. It looks gorgeous in all lighting and weather conditions. Very often you will see cars parked in front of it so be ready to come early for a good shot.
Bourne & Hollingsworth bar

Another interesting place to use as a background for a photo is the wall of Bourne & Hollingsworth bar. When you are done with photographing outdoors, go inside and check it’s pretty interior as well. Win-win.
Newman passage
This secret passage is not only photogenic but it takes you back a few hundred years to how I imagine London looked like in the past. Get lost in time there!
Rathbone Passageway
This is another passage between 2 streets but a bit more contemporary. In the courtyard, there is a hidden peaceful garden which gets very busy at lunchtime.
Kaffeine coffee shop

Kaffeine coffee shops have one of the most photogenic facades in London. Coffee there is quite good too.
The Attendant

This coffee shop is on the list of the most unusual places in London. It used to be a Victorian public toilet and you can see what the interior designers decided to leave as a reminder of its previous purpose. Check it out for yourself or read my review here.
Villandry

I really like the facade of this building on Great Portland Street. It looks a little bit Parisian and the restaurant on the ground floor perfectly fits into the overall image of the house. For a better shot of this house walk down Weymouth Street – just watch out for traffic.
The Masons Arms
(58 Devonshire Street, W1W 5EA)
Technically, this pub is located in Marylebone, but I would like to think it’s on the border of the two areas. You can see this flower decoration all year long and it can compete easily with famous The Churchill Arms in Kensington.
